What is ITASA?
The Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Students Association, or ITASA, is a national non-profit, student-run organization with a mission to connect, inspire, and empower the Taiwanese American community. ITASA’s annual West Coast Conference (WCC) attracts around 200 university students nationwide each year, and includes speeches, performances, workshops, and activities that discuss, explore, and celebrate Taiwanese American culture and identity.
Our Theme
Places everyone! Quiet on the set. Lights! Camera! ACTION!
Your life is your own movie, and you are the director. With this year’s conference theme, “Lights, Camera, Action!”, we hope to inspire you to be courageous and creative, and to embrace your cultural identity, as you direct and produce the movie of your own life. With each scene, everyone will connect with each other to explore topics and discuss issues about Taiwanese American and Asian American culture and identity.
At the conference, you will discover the importance of courage and self-confidence as you pave your own unique path to your desired goals and aspirations. The first step of this process is to develop your story. Through attending speeches and participating in workshops presented by a diverse group of professional leaders, you will be exposed to the endless possibilities and choices you have for your future. You will pinpoint your interests, and begin writing your movie script. Next, you will produce your film, recognizing your strengths and weaknesses to acquire the skills, resources, and support you need to attain your goals, and turn your script into a reality. Finally, you will release in theaters what you’ve accomplished, or plan to accomplish. Be bold and proud of the movie of your life story, and reel off your talents and achievements for the world to see.
By the end of the conference, you will have established your goals and captured the skills and experiences to reach them; furthermore, you will have the cast, crew, and equipment you need to continue directing yourself towards a bright future as a proud Taiwanese American.
